1955: Start-up
The FTALITAL industrial complex in Scanzorosciate, in the province of Bergamo, starts its production of phthalic anhydride used in the derivatives production of synthetic materials.
1965: FTALITAL Acquisition
Alusuisse S.A, a Swiss multinational, acquired FTALITAL industrial complex.
1974: Set up of Polynt’s chemical division
Alusuisse S.A acquires the chemical company, Lonza AG, and creates a Chemistry Division which Polynt joins. As part of this division, the Company carries out development activities relating to dibasic acids and their derivatives, with particular reference to polymer intermediates. In this period, it starts to produce new derivatives based on phthalic anhydride (such as, for example, fumaric acid) and on maleic anhydride (such as esters and special anhydrides).
1975: International development and expansion of the product range
In the mid-‘70’s, due to the rapid development of the polymer industry and the consequent increase in demand, the Company expands its production capacity through the acquisition and construction of new industrial sites.
1979: San Giovanni Valdarno Site
Alusuisse S.A acquires the Distillerie Italiane S.p.A. plant located in San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo) dedicated to the production of unsaturated polyester resins and plasticisers.
At the beginning the raw material used for the production of these products (phthalic anhydride) was supplied by the Scanzorosciate plant.
Then, through the expansion of the plant in 1986, the phthalic anhydride and special plasticisers productions were started directly on site.
In this way the “integration” between the production made for internal consumption and the one destined for the customers is done: this is the main characteristic of the Company’s production and development strategy.
1980: 1980’s acquisitions
From the second half of the ‘80s, the Company continues its expansion by acquiring Italian companies, such as Molding Compounds S.p.A (1985), specialised in the production of reinforced composite materials based on unsaturated polyester resins, and Snial U.P Resins (1984).
1990: Scanzorosciate site and the new plants of the 1990’s
During the ‘90s, the Company extends its products portfolio building two new plants at the Scanzorosciate site for the production of trimellitic anhydride (intermediate used to manufacture special plasticizers and intermediates for high-performance powder coatings) and malic acid (a derivative of maleic anhydride mainly used as an acidulant in the food industry). Moreover, the site energy scheme is optimised through the construction of a co-generation plant for the electrical and thermal energy required for production. In the meantime, the Company acquires Reglar S.r.l., active in the sector of composite materials molding (1991).
1994: Ravenna site
In 1994, the Company begins to operate in the field of maleic anhydride produced from normal butane, building a maleic anhydride production plant at the Ravenna site that uses a new technology (catalytic oxidation of normal butane in a fluidised reactor), developed as a partnership with a leading American company. Supply of the raw material is guaranteed through an agreement with a local producer of normal butane and the construction of a pipe for its supply, ensuring a constant supply of raw material, with both financial and safety advantages. A co-generation and energy recovery plant is also built to generate electrical energy for internal use and to be sold to third parties. From 1999, the Ravenna site also starts production of tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, a derivative of maleic anhydride.
1999: The Lonza Group splits from Algroup (formerly Alusuisse) and is listed on the Zurich stock exchange.

2001: Miehlen site
In 2001, Polynt acquires the German companies Lonza Compounds Verwaltungs and Lonza Compounds, based in Miehlen; the latter specialized in the production of composite materials molding based on unsaturated polyester resin.
2003: Merger with Lonza Compounds S.p.A. and Lonza Composites S.r.l. and the installation of a co-generation and energy recovery plant at San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo)
In 2003, the Company merges with Lonza Compounds S.p.A. (formerly Molding Compounds S.p.A.) and Lonza Composites S.r.l. (formerly Reglar S.r.l.). At the same time, the existing production units are upgraded and the procurement process for the generation of the electrical energy needed is optimised by the construction of a co-generation and energy recovery plant at the San Giovanni Valdarno site (Arezzo).
2005: Niepolomice site
In 2005, as part of a strategy to expand into the emerging Eastern European markets, the Company sets up Lonza Poland Sp. Zoo to construct a new site in Poland for the production of compounds and unsaturated polyester resins.
2006: Polynt S.p.A.
On 1st August 2006, Lonza S.p.A. changes its name to Polynt S.p.A.. On 30 October 2006, Polynt is listed on the STAR segment of the Italian Stock Exchange.
2008: Polynt S.p.A. was acquired by Specialty Polymers
In April 2008, following the takeover bid, Polynt S.p.A. is acquired by Polimeri Speciali S.P.A. (indirectly controlled by Invest Industrial) and delisted from the Italian Stock Exchange. In August, Chemial Group is acquired.
Acquisition of the Chemial shares
On September 1st, Polynt S.p.A. acquires 100% of the shares in the Chemial Group and subsidiaries and on December 30th, Chemial S.p.A. was merged into Chemial Group S.p.A. and, finally, with Polynt S.p.A..
Chemial represents for Polynt the entry into a high specialized step of the intermediates’ chemistry, allowing the Company to further integrate Phthalic Anhydride and Special Plasticizers production.
2009: Leek site
Chemial UK Ltd changes its name to Polynt UK Ltd.
2011: PCCR USA sites
On May 31st 2011, Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. sells its composites and resins for paints businesses to PCCR USA, an indirectly controlled subsidiary of Invest Industrial, with four production sites: Carpentesville (IL), Ennis (TX), Forest Park (GA) and Lynwood (CA), 250 employees and revenue of USD252 million in 2012.
2012: Polynt France
On 1st January 2012, Polynt France SARL becomes operational and has managed the marketing and sale of the Group’s products on the French market from its office in Lyon since 1st April 2012.
2013: Polynt Iberica
On 1st January 2013, Polynt Iberica SL, based in Barcelona, becomes operational and manages the marketing and sale of the Group’s products in Spain and Portugal.
2014: CCP Production sites’ acquisition from Total S.A.
Polynt acquires 17 CCP Composites’ productions sites from Total S.A.: few of them are property and others are rented, in USA, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, UK, Spain and France.
2015: Polynt Composites
On the 1st of April PCCR changes the company name to Polynt Composites.
2017: Polynt and Reichhold merge
On May 17th Polynt and Reichhold complete their merger.
The Company is owned by Investindustrial and Black Diamond at 50% each.
2021: Black Diamond Capital Management become the Company’s controlling shareholder
Black Diamond Capital Management L.L.C. acquires the remaining 50% of the shares owned by Investindustrial becoming the Company’s controlling shareholder.
The Polynt-Reichhold Group reinforces its leadership as integrated global producer of chemical specialties, managing 36 production sites worldwide and 13 R&D with 3.100 employees, generating 2 billion € of sale annually.
2024: Acquisition of Polyprocess
Polynt Group acquires Polyprocess (Gelcoats-France)
