COMPOSITES

Composites

Composite materials represent a true synergy of strengths, engineered by combining two or more distinct elements, typically high-performance reinforcements like carbon or glass fibers and a protective polymer matrix. This fusion results in a material far superior to its individual components, offering an extraordinary ratio of extreme lightness, incredible structural strength, and total resistance to corrosion.

While they often remain hidden from view, composites have quietly revolutionized our everyday lives, becoming the backbone of high-performance sports equipment, such as professional cycling frames and skis, as well as modern mobility through lightweight automotive parts and durable marine hulls.

Beyond daily applications, these materials are the essential drivers of the global green transition. They enable the production of massive, aerodynamic wind turbine blades, allow electric vehicles and aircraft to drastically reduce CO2 emissions by extending battery range and fuel efficiency, and provide the high-pressure storage solutions necessary to unlock the future of the hydrogen economy.

APPLICATIONS

Automotive

SMC and BMC due to their high dimensional stability, heat resistance, "Class A" surface finish are commonly used in passenger cars, commercial trucks, agricultural vehicles, and electric vehicles to produce lightweight, complex-shaped components.

The main applications of SMC are exterior body panels and structural parts, including hoods, roofs, doors, spoilers, fenders, and tailgates. It is also used for parts requiring high thermal stability and chemical resistance, such as oil pans and air conditioning casings.

Thanks to its fire resistance and lightweight nature, SMC is a key element in the production of battery housings and covers for electric vehicles.

BMC, thanks to its high temperature resistance, design freedom, and precision injection molding capability, is widely used in the production of headlights.

Mass Transport Vehicles

SMC and BMC are widely used in public transport vehicles—trains, trams, buses, and coaches—to offer lightweight solutions with high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.

Special formulations with superior fire safety (low smoke and toxicity) meet stringent international standards for the railway industry.

Furniture, panels, and interior structures, such as seats in buses, trains, and subways, are often made in SMC for their durability and ability to be molded into complex shapes.

Electrical components such as insulators, cable trays, electrical panels, and junction boxes are also made in BMC and SMC due to their high dielectric properties and flame resistance.

Aircraft

SMC and BMC are increasingly used in the aviation industry to create lightweight, durable, and fire-resistant components. They offer high dimensional stability at high temperatures, corrosion resistance, and excellent electrical insulation, making them ideal replacements for metal parts to achieve 20–30% weight reduction.

Due to stringent flame retardancy, smoke, and toxicity standards, we developed special grades of SMC that fulfils the FAR Part 25 requirements (Federal Aviation Regulations Airworthiness Standards Transport Category Airplanes) used for interior components like panels, Literature pocket; Pull-out table; Trolley box, Cover light pan; Oxygen mask container.

Electrical and Electronic

SMC and BMC due to excellent electrical insulating properties, high flame retardancy in compliance with highest reference standards combined with high strength, corrosion resistance, excellent flow and dimensional accuracy over a wide range of temperature, are the ideal choice, offering economical high-performance solutions for a large range of applications.

Building and Construction

SMC and BMC support the building and construction market offering alternative materials thanks to their corrosion resistance, high strength-to-weight ratio, fire retardant properties, sound dampening and low maintenance requirements.

Furthermore, thanks to their characteristics and versatility, these materials allow the design of unique shapes and surfaces for a wide variety of applications.

Domestic

SMC and BMC are widely used in domestic applications, in kitchens, and in the sanitary sector thanks to their combination of strength, rigidity, and aesthetic appeal.

SMC is increasingly used in the production of sinks, bathtubs, and shower trays, as it is known for its scratch-resistant properties, durability, and resistance to chemicals, as well as for the possibility of customizing the finish. For toilet seats, it ensures durability along with optimal hygienic and antibacterial characteristics.

It is also used for the production of trays for the food industry, as formulations compliant with food-contact regulations are available.

BMC, on the other hand, is used in the casings of small household appliances such as irons, toasters, and coffee machines, as well as in the handles of cookware and ovens, thanks to its heat resistance and electrical insulation properties.
